Afrika Center Berlin

Our Vision

The Afrika Center-Berlin is a space of belonging, dignity, and empowerment for Africans and people of African descent (Second Generation) in Berlin. AC is a support space and collaborative space where we stand beside Africans and people of African descent, offering free consultation, legal advice, integration support, Social, cultural and religious support to refugees, undocumented migrants, African families, Afro-euro families, prisoners, students, professionals, and those battling addiction. We collaborate with other agencies to build a Berlin where African voices are visible, valued, and heard through our centre, and partnerships rooted in solidarity and a shared humanity.

We envision a Berlin where African voices, cultures, resilience, and hopes actively to shape our shared future. A city where no one is invisible. A community where justice replaces exclusion, and solidarity replaces isolation.

We stand for:

  • Human dignity: especially for those vulnerable (excluded or undocumented
  • Justice and peace
  • Self-determination over dependency
  • Partnership over paternalism
  • “Power with,” not “power over”
  • We do not work for Africans in Berlin; we work with them.
  • We serve not from above, but beside.
  • We create a home where Africans and non-Africans feel welcome and part of a shared humanity.

Our Mission

Create a diverse, dynamic and Listening Supportive Home for refugees, students, professionals, second-generation youth, Afro-European families, and long-term migrants.

We respond to real needs with: Welcome, Listening, solidarity, professionalism, and compassion.

Who We Serve

Our work embraces the full diversity of the African diaspora in Berlin:

  • People seeking asylum
  • Migrants without valid documents
  • Individuals in prolonged asylum procedures
  • Africans facing deportation or legal insecurity
  • Africans struggling with drug dependency
  • Africans in prison
  • Senior citizens from the first generation
  • Afro-European families and second-generation youth
  • Students, professionals, and emerging community leaders
  • We recognize that each group carries unique challenges — but also strength, wisdom, and potential.
  • Collaboration with intercultural religious communities

Our Commitment

We reject a top-down charity model. Instead, we build:

  • Community led initiatives
  • A bridge between cultures.
  • Create “encounter” space.
  • A listening space.
  • A home away from home.
  • Inclusive Space
  • Contact link between Africa and Berlin
  • Clear safeguarding and child protection policies
  • Collaborative partnerships
  • Sustainable and accountable programs

Our mission is not about dependency:

  • It is about dignity.
  • Not about charity.
  • But about solidarity.
  • Not about speaking for others.
  • But about creating space where African voices speak for themselves. Together, we build a Berlin where African presence is not marginal but meaningful, visible, transformative and integrative.

We collaborate with:

  • Archdiocese of Berlin,
  • Missionaries of Africa
  • Other Social workers and agencies
  • African diplomats and Embassies
  • Other organisations working to promote Africans in areas of integration, legal advise, justice, peace and encounter.
  • Africans and non-Africans
